Broadcast Rights for Women's World Cup

If you are not aware, for the women's world cup this summer , FIFA have not agreed to propositions for the broadcast rights.

The UK rights are all but decided now with the BBC and ITV joint hosting the tournament on their platforms.

But, across Europe the rights are not decided.

The truth is... This would not happen in the men's game.

I understand why FIFA want to get fair money for the tournament, but at the end of the day this leaves us as Journalists in the middle ground.

Rather then reporting on the event, which kicks off in 50 days, we have to report on the fact their may be nothing for us to report on.

We have missed out on so many ways to promote the event- because of this standoff.

At the end of the day FIFA can essentially charge what they would like. But, I think they need to consider that this can not continue- the stand off needs to stop.

Yes, I want the game to expand. But I feel as though this stand off IS NOT helping anything. We want to grow the audience - we simply can't (to the extent we could have) in the time span left now.

And now in the second part of this blog I will be looking at the transfer rumors and confirmed deals.

The Arsenal Aussie Duo will stay Arsenal have confirmed that both Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord have extended their contracts at the club.

The Australian duo have both extended their contacts with the club ahead of the World Cup. Foord arrived at Arsenal from Sydney FC in January 2020

Catley signed for Arsenal also in 2020, but instead in the summer transfer window in the July of the year, signing from Melbourne City FC . Catley said she didn't believe she would be 'happier anywhere else'. READ FULL INTERVIEW - EXTERNAL LINK TO ARSENAL WEBSITE
