Will West Ham's January signings let them escape the Championship drop?

Currently facing a relegation battle, the loom of a drop down to the Championship is looking very real for West Ham right now.

After employing Rhianne Skinner very late in the summer, she was left with little time to work with her squad of players - and almost completly missing out on the Summer transfer period.

Skinner was appointed manager on June 20th following the departure of the Hammer's former boss Paul Konchesky who had served in the dugout since May 2022, taking charge of 29 matches.

Statement signings don't really come bigger than he US Women's national team player Kristie Mewis - the NWSL League winner with NY Gotham FC. Mewis has capped 53 times for the USWNT. A big move- to go from a cup winning NWSL club to a relegation battle BWSL (Barclays Women's Super League) club.

When interviewed for the West Ham website, she revealed that when first visiting London 'I went to my first football match at Upton Park' she continued to say that 'The culture and energy of West Ham captivated me straight away ... It feels like I have come a full circle from that moment and it's incredible to now be officially part of the West Ham family."

However, West Ham's signings did not stop their. They have also made two other significant signings.

From fellow BWSL side; highflying Tottenham they signed Canadian international Shelina Zadorsky. Having spent the last three and a half years in England, she will bring along vital experience to the squad.

She also has 95 caps for Canada, which includes her contribution to the Canadian Olympic gold medal winning squad in the delayed 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

The most recent [at the time of writing] of the Hammer's January signings is Katrina Gorry. She makes the move to playing in Claret and Blue after leaving her former side Vittsjö GIK in November of last year.

The Aussie star has become an established member of the national squad, being one of the most experienced internationals in the world, having capped 105 times. Gorry shined at her home world cup, helping them all the way the Semi finals where they where eventually knocked out by England.

It's almost certain she will serve East London with her finesse, accurate passing and quick turnover play.

But ... the question still remains will the Hammers be forever blowing bubbles when the end of the season hits? Or will they be drowning in the misery of points dropped earlier on in the season? That question I can not answer, so we will have to watch out.
