Hope Powell steps down from manager role at Brighton

Hope Powell has resigned from her role as manager at Brighton women's football club after nearly 5 years, and 116 matches in charge of the sea gulls.

This follows the 8-0 defeat to Tottenham at home. Hope Powell said after the match, on an interview played on The Womens Football Show on BBC she wanted to 'apologize' to the fans , calling the defeat an 'embarrassment'


The loss leaves the club in 11th place, just one space outside the relegation space.

Tottenham's goals at the match where equal to a third of the goals they scored all of last season.


Despite there recent problems and run of bad form, the former England manager Hope Powell won 40% of her matches with the seagulls.


Amy Merricks , Alex Penny and Perry Northeast will take interim charge of the seagulls next match vs West Ham United next Sunday. The hammers are in good form, they are the first team to have scored against Arsenal in 9 matches, although they still lost the match 3-1 .
