The football association has announced the launch of a new programme for a 'pathway to make the game more diverse , accessible and inclusive' .
The pathway can be broken down into 3 sections or stages.
Emerging talent centers | Club funded programme | Pro game academies |
Entry point for talented players, for those aged 8-16 funded by the FA and premier league. | programmes funded by the club , flexible to their 'philosophy and structure' | Development of players aged 14-20 for senior football , funding from the FA and club(s) |
The hope is that the new structure will help to promote women's football as well as directly face the lack of diversity in the women's game.
The FA also hopes the new system will prevent players feeling the need to go aboard to get education in the game. Examples of players who have done this are Manchester United's striker Alessia Russo and Arsenal's defender Lotte Wubben Moy, both who play for England.
Arsenal women academy manager James Honeyman said 'we haven't even scratched the surface yet'
So, what do you think of these new plans?
I think we will see great advances in the game
I am not convicted yet
Maybe?
