Chelsea have announced that Emma Hayes will leave the club at the end of the season following 11 years as manager of the Blues.
The announcement, made after Chelsea's 6-0 win away at Aston Villa, stated that Hayes was leaving the club "to pursue a new opportunity outside of the WSL and club football".
In the statement, they thanked Hayes for her contribution "to Chelsea in over a decade with the club".
Chairman Todd Boehly stated "Emma’s contribution to Chelsea cannot be understated. She has been a pioneer in women’s football and is hugely respected within the game. We look forward to continuing to work together over the coming months.”
In her time at the club, Emma has collected the following for the clubs trophy cabinet :
FA CUP 2014-15
WSL 2015
WSL Spring Series 2017
WSL 2017-18
FA Cup 2017-18
WSL 2019-20
League Cup 2019-20
Community Shield 2020
WSL 2020-21
FA CUP 2020-21
WSL 2021-22
FA CUP 2021-22
WSL 2022-23
FA CUP 2022-23
Reportedly , Chelsea have not began their quest for a new manager -who will have big shoes to fill- although former Manchester United and current NWSL-side San Diego Wave manager Casey Stoney is a front runner and popular candidate. Stoney reportedly left United due to their lack of investment into the women's side ,although she never confirmed this.
Stoney is also a contender for the England national side job- if current manager Serina Wiegman is not to extend her contract past the Euros 2025.
Meanwhile, Hayes is linked with the US Women's National Team job, after Vlatko Andonovski left the job following their early exit from the Women's World Cup this summer to Sweden in a penalty shootout.
