Today in the world cup...

This was posted late last night over on my Instagram. But I thought that I would post it over on here as well! Wednesday 26th July matches for the WWC ➡️ a run down :

📺matches and times (UK )

Japan v Costa Rica . 6 am

Spain v Zambia 8:30 am

Canada v Republic of Ireland 🇮🇪1pm

Okay , let’s run through each one :

🇯🇵🇨🇷 Japan currently sit joint top of the group (alongside Spain) who both sit on three points from three. Although , Costa Rica have a better goal difference than Zambia (-3) . It’s mathematically possible for them to get out the group…. If they are to pick up points from the next two games. But, it would be a big ask. Japan ,for reference, put 5 goals in the back of Zambia’s net . This Japan side is young, fresh and exciting. Some perhaps controversial desolations in the team selection , but anyone who has been paying attention to the side will see why . This Japan squad is full of energy , and they look ready for anything.

My prediction: ✅ win for Japan

🇪🇸🇿🇲 Spain sit joint top in the group . And Zambia , well bottom on -5 GD. The squad and manager came in very hopefully - even hinting that they could go all the way to win the tournament . That’s a big shout for newcomers to the tournament . Not only that they where the first landlocked African country to qualify for the tournament. After the result of loosing 5 nil the squad where obviously disappointed but are hoping it will not completely dampen their spirits . Because it is still possible for them to exit this group . Spain , well I think you would have to be living under a rock to miss what has been happening with the Spanish association and players . (I do not want to “down” the situation but to put it simply to those who are not aware - 15 Spanish national players withdrew from selection for the squads in part of a dispute with the Royal Spanish football federation. Some players have returned , happy that adequate changes had been made . And others not .) But , in light of all the controversy around the squad . The players that have returned and the ‘young guns’ who have come in to replace them have really stepped up to the challenge . The squad looks in good form , could they go all the way to win , maybe not . But equally , they really could get to the later stages of the contest .

My prediction - ✅ for Spain .

🇨🇦🇮🇪 Ireland only narrowly lost out in their first game in a World Cup ever due to a penalty secured by Steph Catley. Her Arsenal teammate , Katie McCabe , was on the other end . The defeat has not seemed to have dampened the Irish spirits. In the match the Irish bought their ,somewhat expected, feistiness to the pitch. They are in a hard group for their first ever World Cup . But the belief is their , and the Irish media really are backing them. They need to pick up points . Canada ended their first match in a draw to Nigeria . The 2020 Olympic champions will be hoping to gain momentum going into the tournament. The group really is anyone’s to win

My prediction : ✅ for Canada . (But come on the Irish!)
