Arsenal overturn 5 minute City lead to serve another shakeup in the Title Race &elsewhere in the WSL

Welcome back to another post match review! This time I have decided to pop in the highlights at the start so they are easier to find! BBC Highlights link

Today Arsenal and Man City came together in one of the biggest clashes in the WSL this year. With the title being a four way run this year, one of the teams will not be able to take a spot in the Champions league next season.

City found the opening early on thanks to an early Bunny Shaw goal, just 5 minutes into the game. Shaw's header hit the back of the net. Arsenal seemed to start slow and sloppy all throughout the first half.

Man City had so much possession and power over Arsenal in the first half, in hindsight I'm sure Gareth Taylor and the city squad will be frustrated with the fact that they did not take advantage of their early possession, which went back to haunt them.

To say Arsenal where lucky to go in 1-0 down at half time would be an understatement.

Half Time- Man City 1-0 Arsenal

However, the gunners started on the front foot in the second half. With many chances coming thick and fast.

Although, they had to wait until the 62nd minute where Frida Maanum scored a scrappy goal to go past the net of Ellie Roebuck.

But it was the second goal that you will want to lookout for. After an amazing shot by Maanum, saved by Roebuck leading to a corner taken short McCabe smashed the ball into the back of the net, which surely you would say any goal keeper could not save.

Unluckily for Arsenal though, McCabe will now be suspended for the next match due to the number of yellow cards she has received . (see incident below)

This is how the table is currently looking going into today:

  1. Manchester United

  2. Chelsea

  3. Arsenal

  4. Manchester City

  5. Aston Villa

  6. Everton

  7. West Ham

  8. Liverpool

  9. Tottenham

  10. Reading

  11. Leicester

  12. Brighton

For the first time this season Leicester are not sitting at the bottom of the table, thanks to a 96th minute goal from Carrie Jones. However, Brighton (already on their 3rd manager of the season) have two games in hand over the foxes. Will it be enough for them to stay up ?
